Say the poem just once if you are short on time. If you are not short on time, repeat the poem up to three times, asking different volunteers to suggest different ingredients each time. Next, ask the children how long the cake should go in the oven for. Mime putting the cake in the oven and count out loud together to the suggested number of minutes. Next, take the cake out of the oven, mime putting candles on it and all sing the traditional ‘Happy birthday’ song. It’s a magic cake so tell the birthday child to “blow out your candles and make a wish!”
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday dear Child’s Name, Happy birthday to you.
21. GIVE THE BIRTHDAY CARD
Reveal the card from your sparkly bag, read it aloud, give it to the birthday child and lead everyone in giving them a round of applause.
22. BUBBLES: ‘I’m a Believer’ written by Neil Diamond and performed by Smash Mouth Play the song and use your bubble machine to create lots of bubbles for the children to pop. You should dance as you do this.
23. PRIZES: ‘When Will My Life Begin?’ performed by Mandy Moore
Play the track and give each child some magic sparkles and a Haribo treat. Once you’ve packed up, remember to ask one of the birthday child’s parents if you can put a party flyer in each of the party bags and if you can have a photo with the birthday child (if consent for photo has been given on the booking form).
NB: If you did magic tricks during the food break (and therefore have already given out magic sparkles) there is no need to hand out magic sparkles again here. Just hand out the sweets.
