Spring Music Lesson 8
P. 1

Resources for Spring Music Lesson Eight Activity: See the Candlelight (traditional)
1. Hold up three fingers to represent candles on your cake. Blow one of the candles out (and tuck away that finger) during each crotchet rest as you sing the song.
2. As above only ask your child to help you blow out the candles during the ‘gaps’ in the song.
3. This time ask your child to sing the words, and blow out the candles during the ‘gaps’ in the song.
Lyrics:
See the candlelight (rest),
See how big and bright (rest).
You don't need it when you're sleeping, Blow it out at night (rest).
Other Ideas!
At home:
a) Three members of your family stand up to be the candles. During each rest, everyone blows out one candle and one family member should fall to the ground. Make sure you explain before the song the order in which the candles are to fall and use eye contact during the song to make it clear.
b) Make a real cake. Place three candles on top, as far apart from each other as possible. Light the candles and then sing the song, blowing one candle out during each crotchet rest.
In the nursery: The children are in a circle. Three children who are sitting in a row stand to represent the candles. During each rest, the children sitting down blow out one candle and one child should fall to the ground. Make sure you explain before the song the order in which the candles are to fall and use eye contact during the song to make it clear.
