Barry Hird – Director - Biography Barry Hird has over 30 years’ experience as a health and safety professional.
During this time, he developed both his technical and managerial skills, whilst undertaking numerous successful health and safety projects including:
◆ Part of the BSI steering group committee, for the development of the first environmental management standard, BS7750 environmental management system (the only manufacturing representative across the UK).
◆ Development and implementation of HS&E management systems across multi-site operations including manufacturing, distribution and retail operations. This included, new startups and restructures within multisite occupancy businesses.
◆ Developed and implemented the HS&E strategy for operations within health authorities. This included a gap analysis of existing operations, a plan of what was required to achieve legal compliance and a resource plan to keep the HS&E systems operational.
◆ Developed and implemented HS&E systems that the local management teams to own. Implementation is carried out as a joint venture within all key HS&E systems, including such areas as contractor control, risk assessment, method statements and safe systems of work.
◆ Took budget accountability and responsibility for several owner manager operations and the budget holder for several large projects, including budgets ranging between 1.8m to 4.9m.
Barry has worked in the public and private sectors for companies of all sizes, providing both health and safety consultancy & training services on several various projects for:
BP, Ford Motor Company, Amazon, Bio Products Laborites, Haden freeman; and MeiraGTx.
Barry can work in different challenging environments, along with his vast knowledge and experience within health safety and environmental disciplines he has:
◆ Excellent communication skills to both internal & external customers, with a proven ability to liaise and build strong relationships with clients.
◆ Strong managerial, analytical and organisation skills, along with the ability to develop and implement the correct approach that fits within the business he is operating within.
◆ Experienced in planning & managing projects; from concept to culmination, demonstrated using management tools designed to meet the business objectives.
◆ Ability to demonstrate initiative, drive change and improvements within an organisation.
◆ Extensive proven management systems implementation skills; including coaching skills, from shop floor
through to senior management in what they must do to make the systems work.

(National Examining Board in Occupational Safety & Health)
◆ Diploma in Safety Management British Safety Council
