place in the judges’ lounge near the big hon- our ring, we were welcomed by the organizer and we learned that our ring assistants would pick us up for the judging.
For the WUT WS 409 Teckel of all nine breeds were entered. As I already mentioned, I had to judge 45 KL and ML, which – very un- usual – all showed up in the ring to be judged. My ring secretary was Mrs Manuela Moreira, a Portuguese lady living in Italy. She spoke En- glish very well, so I began judging in English, until, after having judged the first five Teckel, Mrs Moreira told me that she also was fluent in German. From that moment on, everything was a lot easier of course. Mrs Moreira was a very good assistant and she rarely left my side during my judging. I saw a lot of very nice
Teckel, awarded 32 “Excellent”, four “Very Promising”, seven “Very Good”, one “Promis- ing”, but unfortunately also one “Su cient”.
I was especially impressed with the long- haired Kaninchen Teckel from the Junior Class, Tezaurus Dream Prize for Daks-Veg-AS (own-
er Mrs Svetlana Baranova-Stockmann) and from the Champion Class, Albano vom Mar- gelchopf (owner Mrs Doris Vetsch), as well as the long-haired Miniature Teckel from the Veteran Class, Pickup della Canterana (owner Mrs Daniela Giannini). All three earned place- ments in the honour ring as well.
Prior to the trophy awards at the Best in Show, the executive director of the WUT, Mr Jan Schürings, after having been present the whole day to observe the judging in the breed rings, spoke to the audience. He delivered a message to the organizers of the show and the audience from the President of the WUT, Mr Stefanus Middendorf, who could not come to the show due to other engagements. Fur- ther he expressed his thanks to the President of the ABC, Mr Gaetano Caramico, to all the organizers of the show and to all the assis- tants and secretaries for their contributing to a great success of this event. Afterwards Mr Schürings and Mr Caramico awarded the tro- phies to the three Best in Show winners.
It was already late when we were brought back to the hotel following the events at the honour ring. At 8.30 pm Mrs Moira accompa- nied us again to the nearby restaurant.
