Renault unveils Triber AMT at Auto Expo 2020 Railways earns over Rs 76 cr from sale of 2.05 lakh

New Delhi: Renault has unveiled the Triber Easy-R AMT variant at the Auto
Expo 2020 and announced this will launch soon.
Renault also informed that the new MPV has crossed 28,000 sales in India and
being exported to South Africa and SAARC countries.
Commenting on the unveiling of the car, Venkatram Mamillapalle, Country
CEO & Managing Director, Renault India Operations, said, “With Renault
Triber, our commitment was to launch a car that would redefine the
conventional notions of the Indian automotive industry. Renault Triber has
changed the rules in terms of space and modularity, targeted at a wide set of
customers across segments, led by the B-segment."
He also said, "It also gave us the opportunity to be present in the largest and the
fastest-growing segment of the Indian automobile market. It is very motivating
to see the outstanding response from customers and today we will take another
step forward in the Triber journey with the reveal of the Renault Triber Easy-R
AMT.”
Renault claims that Triber is specially designed for the Indian market. It also says
that with the Easy-R AMT option, the Triber will become more flexible,
attractive and affordable for the buyers.

Tourism sector uncertain about future in
absence of govt relief
Almost two months of suspended
operations has left the hospitality and
tourism companies bleeding and
industry associations are extremely
disappointed with the absence of any
relief package from the government.
The industry is struggling without
any umbrella direction from the
government and without any fiscal
and monetary support, said the
Federation of Associations in Indian
Tourism and Hospitality (FAITH), which
represents the entire industry in India.
“I’m devastated as are most of my colleagues in the hospitality business.
Between hospitality, hotels, and airlines we have taken the biggest brunt of this
pandemic and a lot of us will not survive,” said Ajay Bakaya, managing director,
Sarovar Hotels.
The industry had urged the Centre for a 6-12 month waiver on loans, both on
principal and interest. It has also approached state governments to consider
electricity charges on consumption basis, waiver of municipal taxes, and
deferment of licence fees, including for alcohol. “Some states such as Gujarat
and Kerala along with few others have given exemptions. We will all huddle and
keep pushing for more measures,“ Bakaya said.
The Indian Railways, which started
bookings for 15 pairs of Special
Rajdhani Express, has earned Rs 76.22
crore from the sale of 2.05 lakh tickets
in a week, officials said on Monday.
On May 10, the national transporter
had announced the running of
Rajdhani trains from May 12 and
started ticket bookings a day later.
The officials said tickets for 3.80 lakh passengers were booked in a week's
time.
On Monday, over 26,830 passengers will travel by Special Rajdhani Express
trains, as against 30,039 passengers on Sunday.
The railways has suspended passenger, mail and express train services since
March 25 amid the nationwide lockdown to combat the spread of novel
coronavirus.
Besides Special Rajdhani Express trains, the Railways is also running
Shramik Special trains from May 1 to transport stranded migrant workers,
pilgrims, students and tourists.
Till Sunday night, over 1,300 Shramik Specials had ferried more than 17
lakh people to differnet parts of the country.
The railways has also been running freight and special parcel trains to
ensure the supply of essential items across the country.

Uber Sacks Over 3,000 Workers, Shuts 45 Offices Globally
Ride-hailing app Uber has announced to lay off nearly 3,000 more employees in
the second round, along with closing or consolidating some 45 offices globally.
Last week, Uber fired nearly 3,700 employees via multiple Zoom calls. With this,
25 percent of its global workforce is now out of job.
In a regulatory filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC),
Uber said due to lower trip volumes in its rides segment and the company's
current hiring freeze, it is reducing its customer support and recruiting teams to
cut down on heavy losses.
Uber is also closing or consolidating some 45 offices globally, including its Pier
70 office in San Francisco, a branch responsible for its experimental projects like
self-driving cars.
Over the next 12 months, it will begin the process of moving its Asia-Pacific
headquarters out of Singapore to a new location "in a market where we operate
our services," according to the company.
Uber will reduce its costs by over US $1 billion a year by these actions, the
company said.
