DESIGN/ PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
211 DESIGN
• Standard: inverted bar with box section.
- Sloping and vertical patent glazing to BS 5516-1.
- Access and openings in accordance with BS 8213-1.
• Detailed design of patent glazing system: Complete and submit before
commencement of fabrication.
• Related works: Coordinate with supporting structure and interfaces in detailed
design.
311 REQUIREMENTS GENERALLY
• Extent of compliance: Entire patent glazing assembly, including flashings and
junctions with adjacent parts of the building.
• Deflections and other movements: Make full allowance.
361 WATER PENETRATION
• Requirement: Under site exposure conditions, water must not penetrate onto
internal surfaces or into cavities not designed to be wetted.
401 THERMAL SAFETY
• Glazing panes/ units: Must have adequate resistance to thermal stress generated
by orientation, shading, solar control and construction.
421 SECURITY
• Fixings to patent glazing bars caps/ wings: Secured to prevent unauthorized
removal. Submit proposals.
474! BREEAM PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
475 DAYLIGHT PERFORMANCE
• Daylight calculations: In accordance with BS 8206-2, CIBSE 'Lighting guide LG10'
and BRE 'Site layout guide'.
• BREEAM requirements:
- Submit the following: Daylight performance schedule and Design plans for each
floor in the building with each room/ area labelled for use.
- Calculations showing: Average daylight factor expressed as a percentage for
each room/ area.
480 VIEW OUT
• Glazed areas/ opening sizes and position: Designed to meet BREEAM 'View out'
criteria for relevant building type.
• Submit design plan and elevation drawings showing the following:
- All BREEAM defined 'relevant areas' dependant on building type and room
depths.
- Actual or notional workstation/ desk layouts.
- Glazed/ open areas.
• Submit site plan showing: Building location and proximity to external obstructions.
