4. - Patio Floor Paving
In creating the effect of extending our interior out from the restaurant, a simple step
to take is to ‘tile’ the floor of the terrace. We need to mix tile types, colours and
patterns to reinforce the impression that the terrace is a place to enjoy a meal, not a
place to have a picnic.
With respect to floor paving, two patterns may be used: " Axis” and “Transversal”
Possible floor tile brands include: Caesar, Apavisa, Porcelanosa or similar, with the
idea being to differentiate the various areas of the patio, as well as the traffic flow
between them and the restaurant.
To achieve this, they need to be installed according to different criteria, depending
on tile size and orientation.
It is also possible to create different areas within the patio by combining softer tile
colours, without too much shade contrasting, and with a preference for warm hues
so as to not disrupt the patio and its furniture’s ambiance of comfort and relaxation.
Patio tiles measure 45 x 45 cm, and are placed at a 45º angle. Tiles bordering the
restaurant measure 30 x 30 cm, and are placed 5 tiles wide forming a straight line.
There should be a row of 30 x 30 cm tiles that border the soft flooring material of
the children’s area, in addition to another row with the same characteristics in the
playground (which has restricted access to the public), in order to facilitate its
installation.
Special attention should be paid to the drain in relation to the size of the tiles. The
installation of a stainless-steel drain would be beneficial.
