Thanh Thanh
About the Author
Thanh-Thanh is the pseudonym of Mr. Lê Xuân Nhuận
(Westernised arrangement: Nhuan Xuan Le or Nhuan
X. Le or Nhuan Le), a Vietnamese American poet &
writer.
He began writing at the age of 12, then formed and lead
the “Xây-Dựng” literary society and publishing house,
of which the achievements were recognized by the
unique pre-1975 National Cultural Festival in Saigon,
capital of the former US-backed Republic of Vietnam,
as one branch of the Vietnam Culture Tree.
After more than twelve years suffered in the communist
prison, Thanh-Thanh was resettled as a political refugee
in the States in 1992 and began writing in English.
He has contributed poems to some fifty English
anthologies, published three books of poetry and verse
translations, and is noteworthy as the single pen who
has translated the greatest number of Vietnamese poems
by the greatest number of authors so far.
The most outstanding thing is that Thanh-Thanh
translates Vietnamese poetry into English poetry —
rhymed poetry, not mere prose.
He is a member of PEN America and now resides in
Alameda City, California, USA.
