DIE GREAT OMISSI01\-
In verse 19, there are no three persons, no crinin- referen
and no Trinitarian formula for baptism.
16Afrer this when the twelve disciples came to GaJiJee he appeared to them in the mountain where they hadprayed 17 WJlen they saw him they worshippedhim, but there were
some ofthem who doubted him
18Jesus drew nearto them and said to them
To me has been given allpower in heaven a nd in earth
19 Go
20 And teach them to carry out all the things which I have
commanded you forever.
(Original) Hebrew Gospel of l\Iatthew Matthew 28:16-20
Since St. Matthew 28:19 is not in the original rnanuscripts of the Bible, many scholars believe that this is proof that the three person doctrine of the trinity was added to this text.
Let me finish by adding notes from a few more places:
The Tyndale New Testament Commentaries, Vol. I page ?7 5:
"It is often affirmed that the words in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost are not the ipsissima verba [exact words] ofJesus, but ... a later liturgical addition."
Edmund Schlink, The Doctrine of Baptism, p age 28:
"The baptismal command in its Matthew 28: 19 form cannot be the historical origin of Christian baptism. At the ve1-y least, it 1nust be assumed that the text has been transmitted in a form expanded by the [Catholic] church."
