But when you refer to the Greek text you find that there is no indefinite article. Therefore, in the Greek text John 4:24 simply sa):S, "God is Spirit" instead of God is spirit. By the same token if you remO\·e the indefinite article and the adjective from Hebrews 12:29, it becomes "God is fire" instead of ..."God is a consuming fire". We benefit from the original language when we see that God is Spirit, God is Light, God is fire and God is Love.
WheneYer you have two nouns of the same case connected by an equati,·e ,·erb, the first noun is the subject and the latter noun in the predicate nominative. So when the Bible says, "God is spirit, light, love and fire", it should be understood that God doesn't have spirit, he is spirit, God doesn't have light, he is light, God doesn't have love, he is love and God doesn't have fire, he is fire. God is spirit in essence, God is light in character, God is love in compassion and God is fire in holiness. And this God whose name is Jesus is the One "Who" that we have been discussing. Again, he's as many "whats" as he wants to be or needs to be. In the case of Matthew 28:19:
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost;
God is one who and three whats, the one who is named Jesus. No wonder Jesus said in John 12:45, "... he that seeth me
