The Identity of Jesus Christ
one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and livefor ever..." Apparently, God was talking to His angels, who knew good and evil. The next verse shows the reasonableness of this as sumption: "Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of
life" (Genesis 3:23-24). Certainly, the cherubim distinguish well between good and evil. Now that Adam was able to distinguish between good and
•evil because of the tree he ate from, he had at tained the level of the cherubim in that respect. So when God used the phrase, "the man is become as one of us," He took into account the cherubim together with Himself, but He did not pluralize Him self.
In Genesis 11:7 when God said, "Let us go, down ... " He did not refer to other gods besides Himself. The phrase "and the LORD came down" in verse 5 makes clear that only One God acted. Verses 8 and 9 further demonstrate this point, saying, "The LORD scattered them."
Angels such as cherubim and seraphim have always been in His company whenever God set out to do anything.
