DISCUSSION PART II
The experiment conducted by Dr Money breached the “do no harm” principle in research in which the subject David Reimer
suffered from severe psychological trauma and committed suicide at the age of 38. Not only that, the research also affect the
family of David as his mother became suicidal, his father turned alcoholic and his twin committed suicide. David also did not
consent nor volunteer instead was forced for the experiment and his parents agreed to the procedure without fully understanding
the consequences and Dr Money’s real intention of proving his theory of gender neutrality. Which goes against the principle of
avoiding deceptive practices and the right to withdraw.
The activities done in every meeting done by Dr Money and David with his twin was also not disclosed clearly to his parents which
breach the informed consent principle. They were forced to engage in bizarre activities which led to serious trauma until they even
get afraid of Dr Money. Dr Money also falsified his reports by claiming that his experiment was a success and that his theory is
supported which goes against the real data that shows David behaviour is not according to Dr Money’s theory and the family was
having serious psychological traumas.
