Generics

Unlike brands, the generic market is a commodity
market. Pricing on these lines can fluctuate depending
on demand and availability. Last year, we saw prices
rise significantly and a record number of concessions
awarded due to shortages, with December seeing a
high of 200 lines on concession. We are now seeing
pricing (and concessions) drop again, which means that
wholesale spend, and rebates will fall as well.
Simon also talked about the importance of availability
to minimise having to use multiple suppliers – something
PSUK members get with ‘Keys’ access, highlighting the
tools available to customers, such as the over tariff
functionality to help monitor purchases of over tariff
products after concessions have been awarded.

                      Brands

Changes affecting pharma manufacturers have shaped
their views on products in their portfolios which has led
to decisions around divesting products and removing
MDS discounts. This can have a significant impact on
a dispensaries margin if a product that has historically
had a discount is moved to a supplier that doesn’t give
                      discount.
PSUK members should keep an eye out for the monthly
E-newsletter for these changes and utilise tools such
as the new PAD guide and Boost tables to identify the
                      most profitable options for them.
We also invited Dr Emma Watts onto the stage to talk
about how Golden Tote has revolutionised her practice
and released significant efficiencies that have reduced
pressure on. These changes have enabled Shere Practice
to streamline their dispensary process, reduce stock
holding, reduce demands on an already stretched
                      workforce, and improve safety.
