MDS Updates
– Making you ££ rich, not penny rich
With generic re-imbursement dropping by more than 20% in the last
12 months – it is really important that members keep an eye on the
branded market and the deals that are available to them that can drive
additional profit.
The price difference between brands and generics continue to grow –
and focusing purely on generics and not brands can be costly.
In last month’s PS Magazine, we provided an update on the PSUK
Manufacturer Discount Scheme (MDS) proposition, including the
number of changes made so far this year. Since then, there have been
further developments.
Since January:
Over 145 products have been added to 15 schemes
6 new schemes have been launched
The discount on 15 products has been increased
These are all positive updates that can benefit your practice’s
profitability, and being aware of these, and what the alternatives
are is important to maximise and grow your profits.
As well as these additions, there have however, been some reductions
as well.
8 manufacturers have removed products from
their schemes
4 schemes have seen a reduction in discount
11 schemes have come to an end — two of these
were relaunched, and three ended due to distribution
changes in the market
Not being aware of these changes or told in a timely manner, means you
cannot identify potential profitable alternatives. Dispensing practices
have the ability to adapt quickly and effectively to protect profitability.
When a scheme ends, a product is removed, or a discount is reduced,
PSUK will always aim to highlight potential profitable alternatives that
can be prescribed and dispensed, ensuring that we do the analysis so
you don’t have to.
