TELL US A BIT ABOUT LOPIC AND YOUR AMBITION FOR THE PLATFORM?
In 2016 I achieved my goal of becoming a pharmacist, but I quickly realised
that often, pharmacy life isn’t quite what it seems.
For me, becoming a locum pharmacist was exciting. It was an opportunity to
show my skill, meet some amazing people, and support local patients with
what they needed, all whilst having flexibility and the opportunity to travel. In
my eyes, it was going to be the perfect job.
But during one of my first locum shifts I saw something I never expected. I
turned up, excited and ready for the day, I walked in and as any good locum
does, went to meet the lead dispenser. Unfortunately, instead of an energetic
hello, they said, 'I hope you're going to work today.' It took me by surprise.
“What do you mean? Why wouldn’t I work today?” I asked. As it turns out the
same locum agency who booked me to work with the pharmacy had also
booked the locum that covered the previous shift, and apparently their shift
contained, a pretty poor attitude, them spending 50% of the day on their
phone and the locum doing minimal work knowing the pharmacy couldn’t run
without them.
For the pharmacy, it was a nightmare, and for me as a locum it meant that I
had lost trust with the pharmacy before I even started my day.
Soon after, I started Lopic.
Lopic (initially “The Locum App”) was developed to change the outdated
agency model pharmacies were working with:
- High agency fees.
- Locums they couldn’t trust to work.
- Agencies that didn’t support the pharmacy's interests.
