left late 1981.) Municipal Government Administration. Director of Legal
and Administrative Services for Dudley Metropolitan Borough from April
1974 (in succession to Town Clerk Percy Wadsworth, club member #300).
He was raised in Nottingham but started his career with Great Yarmouth
County Borough Council. After six years in Dudley he left to take up the
post of Chief Executive of Waveney District Council, which covers North
East Suffolk including Lowestoft, from which he retired in April 2000. For
services to the community in Lowestoft he was made an MBE in June 2009.
In addition to being an active member and Past President of the Lowestoft Rotary Club, his many
interests included a local theatre group, table tennis league, and twinning between Lowestoft
and the French town of Plaisir.
469 Alexander (‘Alec’) Milne GREIG (1911-1984) (Inducted 3.11.1975; left in
1980/81.) Painting & Decorating. Proprietor of a small business which he
operated from his home in Church Road, Coseley. He left the club on
retiring from the business, which he had handed over to his son Brian (club
member #478) in 1976. He was born in Coupar Angus near Dundee,
Perthshire but appears to have come to the Black Country as a young man
because he married in Coseley in 1943, during his period of wartime
service in the RAF.
470 Robert Brian JONES (1931-2000) (Inducted 3.11.1975; President 1985-86; left in 1999 because
of ill health but made an Honorary Member.) Accounting service. He
practised in his own name as R B Jones & Co., Accountants & Auditors in
Parsons Street, Dudley in the early 1960s, and then as Brian Jones,
International Accountant, based for a few years at Inhedge House, Dudley
and from about 1972 in the offices of Rock & Co at Vicar Street, Dudley. He
appears to have worked in close association with Rock & Co rather than
being a partner in that firm. From 1985 he operated from home as a
financial advisor and intermediary, for some years under the banner of
Investment House Limited. He was a director of several companies,
including a Brierley Hill firm that manufactured materials testing equipment, and was actively
engaged with Dudley Chamber of Commerce. Brian served as Rotary District Treasurer for three
years. He lived in Elizabeth Grove, Oakham, Dudley until early 1970s and then at Haden Hill
Road, Halesowen.
471 Anthony (‘Tony’) John WATSON (1920-2002) (Inducted Nov.1975; left in 1981/82.) Plastic
Manufacturing. MD of Watson Industrial Plastics Limited of Oxford Street, Bilston until it was
wound up in 1982. The firm produced a wide variety of fibreglass-reinforced plastic products,
including acid resisting flooring grids, ornamental garden pools and fume stacks, under the trade
name ‘Metaglas’. He started the firm in 1958 at Hill Top, West Bromwich. About 1965 the
factory moved to Hobart Road, Tipton and was there 10 years before moving to Bilston. During
the period at Tipton he also operated Watson Conveyor & Handling Limited and Watson Bros.
(Gas Plant) Limited (presumably with his brother Keith, club member #357). He started work as
a ‘heating, ventilating and dust extraction engineers’ draughtsman, presumably in his father’s
(club member #195 Alex Watson’s) business. He lived in Himley Road, Dudley until 1978, and
then at Wolverley.
472 William (‘Bill’) BANKS ( - ) (Inducted Dec.1975; left mid 1978 on job being transferred to
Birmingham.) Railroad Transportation. He was Manager of the Dudley Freightliner Terminal
adjacent to Castle Hill, operated by Freightliners Ltd, a subsidiary of British Rail. At the time it
