214 Alexander Rolfe MacKENZIE (1908-1972) (Inducted c.7.3.1938; membership lapsed 27.3.1939,
but rejoined in 1943.) Electrical Distribution Engineering. District Manager with the Shropshire,
Worcestershire and Staffordshire Electric Power Company, presumably at the Dudley District
Office in Hall Street. At the start of the last War he represented the company on the town’s Air
Raid Precautions Committee. He rejoined the club in 1943 - see #256 for more description.

            215  Herbert  Robert  (‘Bob’)  BEWLEY  (1903-1969)  (Inducted  25.4.1938;
President 1950-51; died Feb.1969 whilst still a member.) Newspaper
Publishing. Managing Director of Midland United Newspapers Ltd and
MD of Herald Press, Priory Street, Dudley from 1936 until his death.
When he joined the club he was an Additional member to Norman
Brathwaite, then the editor of the Dudley Herald. Bob Bewley was born
in Hertfordshire but raised in Folkestone, the son of a printer. He came
to Dudley in his early 20s and probably joined Herald Press at that time.
He was made a director of Herald Press at the age of 23. He was closely
involved with Dudley Chamber of Commerce and its Chairman and President in the 1960s; was
                  Chairman of Dudley Orchestral Society for many years; was President of Dudley Choral Society;
and Treasurer of the local Boy Scouts Association. He was a prominent freemason, holding high
office in several local Chapters and the Worcestershire Province. He shared a house in Priory
Road until 1951 before moving to Kidderminster.

            216 Arthur RICHARDSON (1897-1945) (Inducted 13.6.1938; membership lapsed 15.8.1944.)
Quantity Surveyor. From 1928 he practised in his own name with an office in Holloway
Chambers, Priory Street, Dudley but from 1938 shared premises in the High Street with architect
George Webb (member #193). From September 1943, as Captain Richardson, he joined the War
Department Land Agency based at Stratford-on-Avon, so was granted leave of absence.
However he died prematurely in April 1945 aged only 48. His home was never in Dudley: he
grew up in the centre of Birmingham where he started as a building surveyor’s office boy straight
from school at 14; he appears to have moved to the Kings Norton area and finally to Solihull.

217 George Sydney MARLOW, JP (1895-1976) (Inducted 13.6.1938; left in late 1939.) Catering
Manager at Dudley Zoo from its opening in 1937 until 1957 when he
moved to Bridgnorth to become licensee of the Woodberry Down Hotel.
He was born in Glasgow but as a child moved to Hampton Court, London
where his father became foreman gardener and then Superintendent of
the Royal Parks and Gardens. With the advantage of this start in life,
George became involved in catering in the Royal estate. For a time, he and
his wife managed the Tilt Yard Restaurant at Hampton Court; and
eventually he became superintendent in charge of catering at all the
London Royal Parks, including Kensington, Kew Gardens, Hyde Park,
Richmond, Greenwich and the Tower of London. He was also responsible for the catering at
many Government garden parties and receptions for foreign royalty. From London he came to
Dudley and soon became involved in local affairs. He was elected a Dudley Councillor from 1939,
served two terms as Mayor (1950-52), was made an Alderman in 1954 and a Magistrate in 1956.
His first wife was killed in a bombing raid in 1941, the only fatality in Dudley as a result of the
Blitz. He remarried two years later. After moving to Bridgnorth he was elected to the Town
Council, served as Mayor of the town for 1965 and 1966, and continued as a councillor until
                  1973.

218 Thomas DOMAILLE, Captain (1878-1961) (Elected 26.9.1938; left the district 27.3.1939.) Air
Raid Precautions Officer for Dudley. He left to take up the same role with the London Borough
of Camberwell. He was born near Southampton, son of a dairy farmer from Guernsey. When
