2013 Spring Training or Spring Cleaning?
T
he real reason that fans enjoy spring training is that we
get to take a look at players that in all likelihood will join the
25 man roster at some point during the 2013 season either
because of injuries or poor performance on the part of another player.
Here’s how spring training fared for some of the Reds’ top young
prospects as well as some of the older players trying to make the 25
man roster. Again, if a good player didn’t make the club by April 1 st
chances are that he’ll be called upon later on in the season.
Here are some of the prospects:
OF - Billy Hamilton – His bat was sleeping during his brief spring
training stint and so Hamilton was assigned to AAA Louisville. Billy is
probably the most exciting player the Reds have had as a position
player since Joe Morgan. So, keep an eagle eye on this rookie prospect
for the near future. After taking some time to perfect his switch hitting
- look out!
OF – Yorman Rodriguez – His bat was hot with a limited number of
ABs; definitely a good looking hitter from Venezuela. Keep an eye out
for this guy in the near future. He was optioned to A - Bakersfield Blaze
for more seasoning.
2B – Henry Rodriguez – We could potentially see Rodriguez backing up
nd
Phillips at 2 base very soon. He had a very hot bat during spring
training and he’ll be a great addition in the near future.
OF – Derrick Robinson – This player who was acquired during the
offseason as a free agent previously played with Kansas City. Derrick
has had an exceptional number of ABs during spring training trying to
make the 25-man roster; but in all likelihood he will start at Louisville.
