O God, you are my God, for you I long;
Like dry waterless lands, so my soul thirsts for you.
Your love, better than life; on you I gaze,
To see power and glory, on my lips your praise.
Glory, blessing, even in darkness;
All through the night, held by your hand,
Yearning for you.

What should we render to Caesar?
Lord, help us to sort out what it means to be good citizens of this state,
but also faithful followers of Jesus, as members of your church.
If our loyalty to the state should conflict with our loyalty to you,
then grant us grace to endure persecution.
Help us to seek peace and justice politically,
but to be faithful to your way of the cross:
to be zealous, but not fanatical;
strong in faith, but not bigoted;
merciful but not sentimental;
to stand up for what is right without arrogant awkwardness.
May we be alive to the issues of the day,
but not carried away by the latest political fashion;
treasure the traditions of the past,
but not be bound by them.
So may we bring glory to our Father in heaven.
King of kings, have mercy upon us and help us to know
what we should render to Caesar
and what we should render to God.
