Teresa Nuvola – Napoli, Italy
Teresa Nuvola’s journey with Adhiyogi has been both immersive and transformative — a rare blend of rigorous study, personal growth, and enduring friendship. She had the singular privilege of translating his complete work, Adhiyoga – Authentic Yoga System of Adhiyogi, into Italian — a monumental task that would go on to benefit hundreds of Italians in search of authentic yoga teachings.
Her bond with Adhiyogi deepened during her 300-hour Teacher Training in India, a two-month- long immersion that was as much about living yoga as it was about learning it. For much of that time, Teresa and Adhiyogi lived together in Pune, sharing not only space but also countless conversations, insights, and moments of laughter. Their learning extended beyond the classroom when they traveled to South India, where each location became part of the curriculum, infusing her understanding of yoga with the colors, textures, and rhythms of the land itself.
Adhiyogi gave Teresa an extraordinary level of deep, individual attention, crafting her training around her unique strengths and needs. Anchored in the profound discipline of Raja Yoga — with the mind as its central focus — his method encouraged questioning, critical thinking, and learning through direct experience. This approach often took her beyond even her own expectations, shaping her into a teacher capable of transmitting the essence of yoga with clarity and authenticity.
Returning to Italy, Teresa began teaching yoga with a renewed sense of purpose, while also nurturing her artistic gift as a master jeweler — a craft that, like yoga, required patience, precision, and creativity. Her commitment to learning didn’t stop; she later undertook Adhiyogi’s advanced training in Avellino, Italy, refining her skills even further.
Through all of this, Teresa and Adhiyogi forged a lifetime bond built on mutual respect, shared purpose, and genuine affection. This partnership grew into a Trio of Friendship when O.M. Patil — the very person who urged the creation of this storybook and is mentioned in its prologue — joined them. Together, they shared a vision of preserving and spreading the depth of authentic yoga.
Teresa describes Adhiyogi’s system as entirely logical, linear, and complete — the fruit of many years of dedication. She notes that it is both simple in structure and profound in its effectiveness, equally suited for leading a yoga class and for preparing future teachers. Under his training, teachers can develop in their students the highest levels of mental concentration, physical achievement, and philosophical understanding, whether in asana, sutra study, or meditation.
His approach to physical exercises has always fascinated her. For Teresa, studying with him has been nothing short of illuminating, filled with moments of wonder. He has a unique ability to transform any physical movement into a yoga exercise, adapting each asana to suit the practitioner’s specific needs — whether physical or otherwise.
