Reflections and Experiences from Yoga Students at GMU
These are only few stories from the 10-year period Adhiyogi taught at the George Mason University.
ESP’s Enriching Journey with Adhiyogi
ESP had been attending Adhiyogi’s yoga sessions for some time, but this particular semester stood out as something truly special. From the very first day, she felt a deeper connection — not just with the teacher, but also with the class as a whole.
Adhiyogi, as always, was attentive and compassionate, tailoring each session to meet the needs of his students. This time, however, ESP noticed a new energy in the group. The students were more responsible, more regular in attendance, and more focused than in previous semesters. This collective dedication uplifted the entire learning environment, making each class a rewarding experience.
Several thoughtful additions enhanced the program — soothing music played during yoga practice, creating a serene atmosphere; recorded explanations on specific topics requested by the students offered clarity and depth; and, perhaps most importantly, Adhiyogi’s punctuality and generosity with his time meant they often went beyond the scheduled hours. This allowed ample opportunity for yoga practice, deep relaxation, and meaningful personal growth.
For ESP, the semester was more than just a set of classes — it was a chapter of transformation. She left each session feeling balanced, inspired, and deeply grateful for the experience. As the course concluded, she was already looking forward to the next semester with Adhiyogi.
Brian Thompson
Brian expressed appreciation for the in-depth nature of Adhiyogi's yoga classes, highlighting the emphasis on spending time in each pose and tuning into the body's needs. He valued the detailed guidance on breathing and form. He had stated, "Your classes are exactly the kind of yoga I am looking for... There is no rushing anything... It is important to me to know what the details of breathing are."
Aaron
Aaron enjoyed the Fall 2005 semester and appreciated the incorporation of chanting and the informative talks on healthy living. He stated, "I think I learn the most during the talks on healthy living or yoga at the beginning."
Monica Chen
As a student in the GMU yoga class, Monica Chen felt fortunate to have Adhiyogi as an instructor. She described her experience as a positive introduction to the philosophy and spirit of yoga, and she hoped to continue her journey. "You had given me first image of yoga, the philosophy, and spirit."
