Katlina’s Journey to Strength, Healing, and Peace
In the summer of 2002, Katlina Andrews—a dedicated government administrator based in Alexandria, Virginia—found herself at a physical and emotional crossroads. After an unsuccessful attempt to train for a marathon, she was battling persistent knee pain and worsening asthmatic symptoms, all intensified by her intense physical training.
It was during this challenging phase that she first encountered Adhiyogi, a master of holistic yoga practice. Their meeting, as she later described, was nothing short of auspicious.
At her very first class, Adhiyogi asked each student to declare their personal goals. Katlina replied with honesty and hope: “I want to build more strength, increase my flexibility, and alleviate my asthma.” She also mentioned the knee pain that had sidelined her training. Adhiyogi responded with calm assurance. “Don’t worry about the knee,” he said gently. Then added, “The asthma can be eradicated in six months. Are you ready to make some changes in your diet?”
That question marked the beginning of a remarkable transformation.
Over the course of the year, Katlina fully immersed herself in Adhiyogi’s multi-dimensional classes, which combined Hatha Yoga, Meditation, Chanting, and Yogic Philosophy. Each class was not only physically challenging, but also mentally enriching—a rare blend of ancient wisdom and personal attention that brought lasting change.
Tangible Results, Inner Shift
By the spring of 2003, Katlina’s life had transformed in very real, measurable ways:
• •
• • •
She had lost over 30 pounds.
She had completely eliminated her reliance on asthma medication—no more pills, no more inhalers.
Her strength and flexibility had grown dramatically.
Though her knee took more time, she experienced steady healing.
She discovered a newfound sense of discipline, even as her home practice remained a work in progress.

her favorite parts of class was the healthy, nourishing meal Adhiyogi served at the end
Katlina was also deeply inspired by the spiritual and intellectual atmosphere that permeated the sessions. The philosophy discussions, the chanting, and the mindfulness work were, in her words, “a different way of looking at the world than what I was accustomed to.”
She found joy not only in the learning but also in the diverse, vibrant community she met through Adhiyogi’s classes. “Interesting people with interesting lives,” she recalled.
