In the year 2001, Adhiyogi was given an extraordinary opportunity—to teach Yoga at the prestigious Thomas Jefferson High School of Science and Technology in Virginia, known widely as the top-ranking academic institution in the United States. This institution, brimming with the country’s brightest students, became the unlikely venue for a gentle revolution in body, breath, and mind, quietly sparked by the humble and voluntary service of a yogi devoted to the ancient tradition.
Adhiyogi volunteered to guide the students through the foundational practices of Yoga, not for fame or reward, but purely from a desire to share the transformational wisdom that had guided his own life. Despite a less-than-ideal setting and very limited time for each session, he persisted with joy, reminding his students to "make a happy face" and to embrace each moment fully.
His sincerity and presence did not go unnoticed. The program sponsor at the school wrote:
"Along with students, I would like to voice my appreciation for your efforts this past year to teach Yoga to students at Jefferson. I know it was difficult at times because of the poor setting and short time for the classes, but you always got the students to 'make a happy face' and enjoy whatever time they had with you. Thank you again for your generosity of spirit and time."
The students, some of the brightest young minds in the nation, echoed this heartfelt gratitude in letters that reflected not only appreciation, but transformation.
One student wrote with a playful yet profound tone:
"You are the coolest Yoga teacher ever. It was a very gracious thing for you to volunteer to teach Yoga and not expect anything in return. I learned a lot this year and I have better physical and mental health because of the Yoga. Keep on relaxin', brotha'. Peace out."
Another shared a more introspective appreciation:
"Thank you so much for your gracious service throughout the year. I have learned a lot about Yoga, and I am grateful to you for this. My concentration and mental health have also improved. Keep having a happy face."
A third student reflected:
"Thank you very much for taking the time to teach us Yoga. I really enjoyed it. I wish you could teach us next year. I am thinking about taking a class. Thanks again."
