A Transformative Journey at Northern Virginia Community College
In the autumn of 2001, students at Northern Virginia Community College in Alexandria, Virginia, were introduced to a profoundly transformative experience—the teachings of Adhiyogi, a Master of Yoga Philosophy and practice. His four-week course attracted a diverse range of students, each seeking something deeply personal, and each discovering more than they anticipated.
Monica Grant, a resident of Fairfax, was among the participants. Aware of her right-side scoliosis and determined to improve her flexibility and relaxation, Monica approached the course with cautious optimism. In just four sessions, she began seeing notable changes—not only was she moving through challenging postures like the Plank Pose and Headstand, but she was also able to approach them without pain or the fear of pain. The sessions became a platform for her to confront and gently overcome long-standing physical limitations. “The class gave me a solid practice,” she noted gratefully, “especially in strength and endurance. It was a challenge, but a valuable one.”
Another student, Lana Eastwood, enrolled with the simple yet profound goal of stress reduction. Her expectations were exceeded. “Through learning new yoga positions, I achieved what I came for,” she reflected. Lana praised Adhiyogi's superior knowledge, his excellent communication skills, and his sincere availability before, during, and after class. What struck her most was how accessible he made the wisdom of yoga, always ready to answer questions or provide deeper insights.
She was so moved by the experience that she not only recommended the class to others but also made immediate plans to study again with Adhiyogi. “It was a wonderful class,” she said simply, a sentiment echoed by many.
Even in just four weeks, students experienced a blend of philosophical insight, physical transformation, and emotional balance—hallmarks of Adhiyogi’s unique approach, known as the Authentic Yoga System. Each class became a sanctuary, a time to move inward while growing stronger outwardly.
Another participant, Emily Dawson, summed it up succinctly after the final session: “Mr. Adhiyogi is very skilled and knowledgeable in Yoga principles. I enjoyed the class very much.”
For Northern Virginia Community College, this offering was not just a course, but a gateway into deeper wellness and self-awareness for many. Thanks to Adhiyogi's compassionate guidance and deep-rooted mastery, students walked away with more than skills—they carried with them a new way of seeing their body, breath, and inner world.
