“Stress Less” – A Night Camp with Adhiyogi for
Girl Scout Club, Oakton, Virginia on Martin Luther King Jr. Day
In January 2003, in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday Anniversary, the Girl Scout Club of Oakton, Virginia hosted a large and unforgettable night camp. The evening was dedicated to personal development, peace, and inner harmony—values that echoed Dr. King's teachings. One of the main events of the night was a unique “Stress Less” Yoga and Mindfulness Program led by none other than Adhiyogi.
The challenge was substantial: over 200 girls and their mothers were in attendance, and Adhiyogi was tasked with guiding them all in meaningful, calming, and empowering Yoga instruction. Rather than conducting one large session, the program was masterfully structured into four consecutive batches of 50 mother-daughter pairs, ensuring everyone received attention and space.
The session, lasting an intense and immersive four hours, was supported by two of Adhiyogi’s beloved senior students, who helped manage the scale and deliver effective instruction. Despite the size of the event, Adhiyogi’s calm presence, engaging energy, and deep knowledge created an intimate atmosphere in each group. His program focused on techniques for reducing anxiety and building mental clarity—key issues for both children and adults alike.
As the final session concluded and the room began to empty, a young girl, not more than ten years old, quietly walked up to Adhiyogi. With eyes shining with sincerity, she said:
"Your class really works."
Adhiyogi smiled and gently asked, "How?"
The girl, beaming, replied:
"It really reduced the stress!"
That brief exchange spoke volumes. It affirmed not only the purpose of the session but also the deeper mission behind Adhiyogi’s lifelong dedication to the practice and teaching of Yoga.
After the event, Whitney, the Girl Scout Leader, wrote to Adhiyogi:
"Thank you so much for the class. The girls really enjoyed it. They were all talking after you left about how much they loved it. Thank you again. See you on Friday."
