Freda’s Journey into Yoga with Adhiyogi
Clinical Psychologist, Virginia, USA
When Freda, a dedicated clinical psychologist, first stepped into a yoga class led by Adhiyogi, she did so more out of necessity than interest. At that time in 2002, she was facing the crushing weight of work-related stress. A friend casually suggested yoga as a remedy, and with little expectation, Freda decided to give it a try.
What began as a reluctant attendance turned into a profound life transformation.
Within months of practicing under Adhiyogi’s supervision, Freda noticed changes—not just in her body, but in her mind and spirit. She was struck by the individualized attention she received, even in group settings. Adhiyogi wasn’t simply teaching postures; he was nurturing growth. He took the time to help each student, including Freda, define personal goals and then structured his classes accordingly. Her goal was stress reduction, and through regular practice— combined with Adhiyogi’s insightful teachings on nutrition, philosophy, meditation, and holistic health—she began to experience a calm she hadn’t known in years.
By 2003, her appreciation deepened. No longer was she “forcing” herself to attend yoga; she was looking forward to every session. Adhiyogi’s enthusiasm, depth of knowledge, and intuitive sensitivity made his classes feel like sacred spaces for healing and learning. Whether it was philosophical lectures, meditative silence, or precise instruction in Hatha Yoga, Freda found herself continuously drawn in. His ability to simplify complex yogic philosophies and make them relatable to modern life especially impressed her. And when students brought new questions or challenges, Adhiyogi was open, attentive, and responsive, often continuing the conversation beyond class through thoughtful email guidance.
By 2004, Freda had been with Adhiyogi for nearly three years and was now speaking not only from personal transformation but from a professional awareness of how rare such an educator was. She described him as a true Yogi, someone for whom yoga wasn’t a trend, but a way of life. His authenticity radiated through every word and action.
Freda wrote:
"Yoga has helped me to feel more centered and better able to manage stress. I also feel physically stronger and healthier. I would recommend Authentic Yoga to anybody interested in learning yoga from a true Yogi."
Her journey stands as a testament to the enduring power of Authentic Yoga when taught by a master who lives his teachings. For Freda, it was not just a class; it was a life-redesign—an alignment of body, mind, and soul through the wisdom and compassion of her teacher, Adhiyogi.
OM Shantiḥ.
