Adhiyogi Brings Yoga to Little Hearts at Green Hedges School
Vienna, Virginia – Winter 2005
In the quiet winter trimester of 2005, a new kind of warmth filled the halls of Green Hedges School in Vienna, Virginia. It came not from heaters or coats, but from the radiant energy of children learning ancient practices of balance, breath, and focus under the compassionate guidance of Adhiyogi.
Invited to lead an after-school activity, Adhiyogi introduced a group of seven bright-eyed students—ranging from just five years old to fifth grade—to the gentle world of Yoga. Over ten weeks, these young souls explored postures, stillness, and the harmony between mind and body. Adhiyogi's calm presence and age-appropriate methods made the sessions both delightful and deeply enriching.
What set this class apart was the sincerity and serenity it cultivated in such young participants. With playful yet meaningful instruction, Adhiyogi instilled foundational yogic values of awareness, discipline, and inner peace. For these children, the yoga mat became more than a surface—it became a space of personal discovery.
Elizabeth Cozzolino, Director of After School and Summer Programs, noted how all the children “greatly enjoyed the program” and how the school would be delighted to welcome Adhiyogi again for future sessions. His classes left a lasting impression—not just as physical exercise, but as an early gift of inner calm and confidence.
This brief yet impactful journey at Green Hedges was another reflection of Adhiyogi’s gift: his ability to meet students at any age or background and lead them gently onto a path of lasting wellness.
OM Shantiḥ.
