श्री-आदद-नाथाय नमोऽस्तु तस्मै येनोपददष्टा हठ-योग-ववद्या । ववभ्रािते प्रोरनत-राि-योगम् आरोढुशमरछोरचधरोदहणीव ॥ १.१॥
Hathayogapradipika 1.1: Salutations to the glorious primal (original) guru, Sri Adinath, who instructed the knowledge of hatha yoga which shines forth as a stairway for those who wish to ascend to the highest stage of yoga, raja yoga.
हठ-ववद्यां दह मत्मस्येरि-गोरक्षाद्या वविानते ।
स्वात्ममारामोऽथवा योगी िानीते तत-्प्रसादतः ॥ १.४॥
Hathayogapradipika 1.4: Yogi Matsyendranath knew the knowledge of hatha yoga. He gave it to Gorakhnath and others, and by their grace the author (Swatmarama) learned it.
