4.2 anāsaktistvahaṁkārābhāvāt।
But absence of attachment is possible only when the Ego is absent.
A person with ego distinguishes oneself as different from the rest of the universe. Such a person develops a thinking that the universe is for himself/herself rather than he/she is for the universe, or he/she is part of the universe. His satisfaction and happiness depend on obtaining things for himself/herself. The actions of such a person are done with the attachment to the fruits of actions. For a person to become detached from the fruits of action, sublimation of individual ego is necessary. Let us now consider some relevant quotations from the authentic sources.
ववहाय कामारयः सवामरपमु ांश्चरतत तनःस्पहृ ः ।
तनमममो तनरहङ्कारः स शास्रतमचधगरछतत ॥ २-७१॥
Bhagavadgita 2.71: That person, having abandoned all desires and having no sense of ‘I’ and ‘mine’, moves about seeking nothing, it is he who attains peace.
