sūtra 1.6. īśvarapraṇidhānaṁ samādhisādhanaṁ
ahaṁkāraparityāgānmanaso'tikramaṇāccātyāvaśyakam।
Due to the total discarding of Ego and transcending of the Mind, Īśvarapraṇidhāna as a means of obtaining Samādhi is essential.
As a part of meditation, one may focus the mind on any chosen entity until total concentration of the mind ( samādhi) is reached. However, to reach Objectless Samadhi state (nirbīja samādhi), one must transcend the mind. At this point Self Realization becomes possible. On repetitive Self Realization Experience only, one develops yearning for Spiritual Liberation.
The last part of transcending the mind is to transcend one’s own ego or one’s own identification with the Body-Mind complex. This is so hard that it is next to impossible. For this, the ego needs to be surrendered to a higher entity thus giving up one’s ownership of the Body-Mind Complex. This becomes possible with the Īśvarapraṇidhāna in which one focusses on the Supreme entity, Īśvara and gives the entire ownership to this entity.
