Therefore, Īśvarapraṇidhāna is an essential or mandatory for a spiritual aspirant. Let us consider some references from the world-renowned texts:
Bhagavadgita 3.27: Actions are performed in every way by the Gunas of Prakriti. In respect of such actions done by the Gunas, he whose intellect is deluded by egoism thinks, ‘I am the doer’.
Bhagavadgita 7.4-5: Earth, water, fire, air, ether, intellect, mind, and ego- sense, thus is My Prakriti divided eight-fold. This is My lower Prakriti, O Arjuna. Know that My higher nature is another, in the form of the individual Self, by which this universe is sustained.
Yoga Sūtras of Patañjali 2.6: Asmita (ego) is confusing the power of perception with the perceiver.
