Why do seasons affect our health?
Written and published by Rhianna
ccording to theraflu.com, it states, “Less fresh air means more exposure to sick people.”-Dr. Levitan. Due to the fact that people are less likely to go outside in the winter, they spend more time in confined spaces, and as Dr. Levitan stated, less fresh air means that one is exposed to sick people. Also because vitamin D levels can decrease in the winter and vitamin D is essential for one's immune health.
Being indoors, dry air and traveling lead to illness
hy do more people get sick in the winter? There are several reasons why. One reason that’s stated in rightasrain.uwmedicine.org is that “breathing in heated air dries out your nose and makes it a better breeding ground for viruses.” Yes, it is possible to get sick outside, but the fact that during the winter people are most likely to stay home they breathe in hot air which puts them at more risk to catch a virus. “Viruses can produce 100 times better in heated air than if there is moisture and humidity in the air.”-Dr. Havilah DeBell
Cold temperatures linked to illness.
m.org says common cold viruses are most active in cooler weather. The coating of the flu virus is actually tougher at near-freezing temperatures, making it harder to combat. Different types of viruses thrive in different conditions. Being cold actually may reduce your body’s ability to fight infection, and the cold air in your nasal passages may reduce your immune cells’ ability to fight off the virus in your nasal passage.”
