the people that FRONTLINE had discovered ineligible to be placed on their death toll. The disease that killed all of these people is called Legionnaires. What makes Legionnaires so deadly? It’s a waterborne, and oftentimes deadly form of pneumonia. It particularly attacks the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions, just like a certain pandemic that we’re currently going through.
In summary, the effect of the Flint, Michigan water crisis on the general populace was a deadly outbreak of Legionnaires, a type of waterborne pneumonia. It seemed to have preyed on those with pre-existing conditions and the elderly. Couldn’t this have been prevented, though? Yes. Flint’s administration was given several opportunities to switch their water source over to Lake Huron, and turned them all down. They sat and watched as hundreds of thousands of people who worked below the poverty line drank contaminated, badly treated water. Studies conducted by scientists and universities showed America just how bad the Flint water crisis really was.
