TOPIC 6 QUALITY PHYSICAL LAYOUT
113
• The elements of a building involve the different areas of a learning centre. They are i) parents, staff and visitors, ii) outside area, iii) classrooms, iv) service area, and v) common space.
• There are five attributes of a well-designed layout for the building – boundaries and location, storage, play and sitting surface, mood and location.
• A building system must be cost effective, with the use of U-traps, hose bibs, shut-off valves, and flooring tiles, and allow fresh air.
• In terms of design of the interior parts of the building, one must consider five basic aspects – wall, windows, interior design, doors, and lighting.
