By the end of this topic, you should be able to:
1. Explain best practices for greeting and departing;
2. Identify meals and snacks for children;
3. Describe best practices for nap and rest; and
4. Demonstrate toilet and diapering practices .
 INTRODUCTION
A quality care environment should incorporate appropriate practices to ensure that children will grow up having the appropriate manners, attitudes and skills. Appropriate practices in greeting and departing, meals and snacks, nap and rest, and toileting and diapering must be developed to meet the needs of the children and their families. Early childhood educators play an important role in incorporating appropriate practices based on childrenÊs strengths and needs, knowledge of the current child development and understanding of how children learn, in a proper environment and atmosphere.
8.1 GREETING AND DEPARTING
Daily greetings and departing on a routine basis help make parents and children feel a warm, welcoming and pleasant atmosphere while at a care centre. Greetings that are positive help promote children's self-esteem, and create a
