154  TOPIC 10 PROVISIONS FOR ADULTS
Figure 10.1: Parents often spend at least a few minutes before leaving their child at the centre to say good bye to their child and build relationships with the staff Source: https://kidsallowed.wordpress.com/tag/greeting-parents/
Moreover, many parents come to nursery or preschool with many items or belongings. They are likely to enter the space provided for transition if they are the ones who drop the child. Creating personal spaces for parents is a big part of making the environment of early childhood setting more peaceful for family members. The space should encourage a positive outcome and allow parents to set down their young childÊs belongings. It is a helpful area where parents can sit and observe their young child for a while or to say goodbye to them. Providing a small area with sofa and tables will make parents feel comfortable and help them to settle their young child in the setting.
Thus, physical space for parents is vital to create a welcoming and inviting place for parents or family members of the young children. How the room looks is important to parents. It must be clean, spacious, tidy, and where things are well organised. The space should feel welcoming and inviting to both the parents and young children. It should allow staff to hang on to talk, sit down and invite parents to chat. It can be decorated with bulletin boards, daily information sheets and display short biographies of the staff to enable parents to easily recognise the staff rather than remain strangers. In other words, it is a special lounge or place for parents and their young child to sit in and let things settle for few hours. To create added value for parents, this space should be able to:
(a) Make parents feel welcome, comfortable and safe when they enter a centre;
(b) Make enrolment or registration process more convenient for parents;
(c) Make parents feel comfortable to drop in, say goodbye and observe their young child;
