(d) Encourage positive collaborative between parents and staff;
(e) Provide ample space for parents to have opportunity to meet staff, other parents and have a chat with each other; and
(f) Provide opportunities for parents to observe their young child playing with his/her peers.
Nurturing a relationship with parents and their family members is a crucial part of a successful early childhood setting. That is why it is important to create and excellent experience for parents to help develop their confidence in the centre. Parents expect an early childhood setting to be a place where a young child feels happy and parents can make the transition easier. Therefore, there are several things that every early childhood setting should have to create a physical atmosphere that makes parents feel welcome and comfortable. Listed below are some of the features that can provide a better environment to parents in early childhood setting:
(a) Safe and spacious area to drop off and pick up a child;
(b) Comfortable entrance area;
(c) Large open foyers for encouraging general gathering and communication;
(d) Comfortable reception area;
(e) Writing table;
(f) Comfortable seating with adult size and child size chairs or sofa;
(g) Communication board or bulletin board;
(h) Short biographies of the staff;
(i) Displays of childrenÊs work and activities;
(j) Drinking water dispenser;
(k) Magazines, booklets or pamphlets that cover parentsÊ interests;
(l) Wi-Fi accessibility;
(m) Small play area for children;
(n) Phone and laptop charging facilities; and
(o) Clean carpets and floors.
