A warm and welcoming physical space for staff is a way to show hardworking staff that they are valued and appreciated, which can, in turn, boost their job satisfaction. Healthy and fulfilled staff are able to perform better and at their best. Thus, if possible:
(a) Keep office equipment in a separate area to maintain a relaxing space;
(b) Arrange table and chairs in a way that encourages interaction among the staff;
(c) Renew outdated furniture by painting the surface or replacing with new ones;
(d) Have healthy pot luck meals for staff and educators;
(e) Display photography of staff and educators and hang them around the break room;
(f) Hang bulletin board to display upcoming activities at the centre; and
(g) Provide comfortable seating and coffee tables for relaxation.
Providing comfortable sofa, chairs, board games, and water dispenser is a great way to encourage staff and educators to interact in the break room environment. The items listed below will meet staff needs and can be placed in the staff break room in early childhood setting:
• Bookshelves; • Computers;
