TOPIC 10 PROVISIONS FOR ADULTS
163
• One of the key aspects of the early childhood centres is that the centre can actively foster relationships between staff and parents of young children who attend the centre.
• Physical space such as break room for staff is vital because it provides a place for them to unwind after work or during break. The space used as a break room should have a welcoming and relaxing environment where staff and educators can strengthen each other and relieve stress throughout the working day.
• Observation area is a place where parents could observe young children in class. This space should have glass windows into classrooms from hallways. Having many eyes on staff and young children will contribute to the certainty that these young children will not be ignored while in the setting.
• Observation spaces afford the opportunity for parents to see and compare their young child with other children of the same age, which can be helpful in getting parents to understand that their young child has a developmental delay or that his or her behaviour is age-appropriate.
• Early childhood environment should always be welcoming and include all family members and staffs. It helps to build relationships between staff and parents as well as with young children. A conducive space for parents and staff may say a lot more about the centre as early childhood setting that cares about young childrenÊs well-being.
• As for staff and educators, a physical environment such as a break room is a place which they can associate with positive experiences. It will add to the relaxing, separate atmosphere of the classroom and improve the break time that the staff and educators have on a regular basis.
