By the end of this topic, you should be able to:
1. Describe an early childhood environmental setting that meets the needs of young children;
2. Discuss the concepts of comfort, softness and competence in the context of early childhood environment;
3. Formulate a plan to provide a healthy and safe environment; and
4. Evaluate the components in designing a good early childhood setting.
INTRODUCTION
Today, it is commonly accepted that many children spend their time in early childhood centres or preschools. Many believe that young children who attend early childhood education are more likely to succeed in their formal education than those who do not. Early childhood educators should provide a learning environment that can provide meaningful experiences. As educators, they also have to ensure that the environment is conducive and comfortable for children. For this reason, they have to provide an environment with wide opportunities for children to learn, experience and have a sense of belonging.
