Definitions
• Service(s)
−What is a Service?: A service is a “pre-modeled” building
block that is reusable from Topology Modeler to build more
complicated / multi tier applications
• Example – Operating System – Windows 2008, Ubuntu 12.04
• Example – OS with an application – Ubuntu 12.04 VM running
Tomcat, Windows 2008 with IIS configured
• There are four types of services – VM Based, Container Based or
external service
• External services can be a PaaS service, an existing VM/Virtual
Appliance or a Physical Server/Appliance
• External service examples
• Amazon RDS that you would want to add a database
instance too
• An existing Oracle database sever (virtual or physical) that
you want to add an instance to
• A physical F5 load balancer that you want to add the
application to
• A DNS server/service to add the app deployment to
