BLE Gateways on Cisco APs

Cisco APs with BLE Capability can operate in either Base OR Advanced Gateway functionality:

1. Base BLE Gateway AP (Native Mode)
• Supports BLE Advertisement (AP as a beacon) OR BLE Scanning.
• Cisco BLE radio can either advertise or scan at the same time

• No management of 3 party BLE beacons or tags
2. Advanced BLE Gateway AP (IOX Mode) – New! On C9100
• Base Gateway + Allows installation of IOX app on the AP as a container to make a
connection to beacons and manage them directly IOX
• Takes the capabilities of the AP one step further APP
• Allows the AP to function as the native gateway behaving same as a vendor’s
hardware, avoiding new installations, cable and management costs
• AP can not only listen to beacons, but actively connect to, configure and manage the
