Charitable Thanksgiving inspired the first verison of
Deductions the "TV Dinner."

In 1953, a Swanson employee
accidentally ordered WAY too many
turkeys, 260 tons to be exact. To deal
with the excess, salesman Gerry Thomas
took inspiration from airplane meals and
put the turkey in aluminum trays along
with the appropriate sides to complete
the meal. The $.98 meals were a huge
hit, especially with kids and in
increasingly busy households.
