Our roads are for the most part straight & pothole free.
With the exception of Grand AVE. Grand AVE runs
diagonal through the entire city and has a railroad that
runs parallel to it. So intersections of Grand can be
confusing because you actually have 3 streets coming
together at the same intersection. Locals always stay off
Grand at all costs!

Getting Around Phoenix: The “Grid System”
Getting around Phoenix is one of the best parts about
living here. The roads are all laid out in a nice 90 degree
grid system, with the expiation of one road that we will
get to in a minute.
Phoenix is divided into east and west which is
separated by Central AVE. Central runs north and south
right through downtown and the middle of Phoenix.
Anything to the west of Central are the “avenues”
Anything east of Central are the “streets” So going west Chapter 9

and so on. Going east you have 1st ST, 2nd ST, 3rd ST and

would know it’s on the west side because it’s an Avenue.
Once you get used to the name of the east & west roads it Fast forward to 2019. Now there are eateries everywhere,
