2015 Care Quality Commission survey of Women’s experiences of maternity care found:
• Around 83% women still give birth on a bed. - Bed can be useful – can be adjusted, useful tool.
• 35% of those were in stirrups (lithotomy position), still very common position.
• NICE guidance CG190: women should be as active as possible during labour.
• Just because bed is there – don’t need to assume role of patient.
