3.0 Indian Traditional Dances
3.1 Bharata Natyam Dance
This classical Indian dance is poetry in motion. Based on ancient Indian epics, this highly intense and
dramatic dance form uses over 100 dance steps and gestures. Bharatanatyam is usually danced with
classical Indian music. As mastery requires many years of practice, some children begin learning the
dance form at the age of five. Bharatanatyam is well known because of its grace, purity, tenderness,
and sculptures que poses. It’s now one of the most popular dance performances. Bharatanatyam’s
unique styles is being practiced all over the world. Who dances Bharatanatyam is said to be the
celestial dancer. They are depicted in many sculptures. This is why many Hindu temples are
traditionally maintained complements of trained musicians and dancers.
