ACTIVITIES AT THE CLUBHOUSE
After a successful refurbishment of the outside of the clubhouse attention has turned to the inside.
The appearance of the Club has been transformed with the whole community of Club and Town commenting on the remarkable transformation. The club flat is also having a complete transformation in the hope of increasing revenue by attracting new tenants.
The back bar is also due to be painted and has already received an anonymous generous donation towards this and the purchase of new tables and chairs. This room has also benefited from a generous donation from the club’s Vice Presidents in order to purchase a new projection screen which will make
viewing of rugby matches a most enjoyable experience.
In the front bar we have purchased new furniture and installed a new TV and sound system, all of which will make watching rugby matches more
enjoyable by providing comfortable seating, unrestricted views and better sound throughout the bar.
With the 6 nations upon us a big push has been made to attract customers to enjoy the benefits of the above.
We have changed our brewery supplier to COORS and I think this change has been well received but with a culture change
in less people visiting pubs and clubs we are in challenging times. It is the intention to try to have more events within the club in order to try to help this situation and it is hoped to attract many more clubs and societies to use our wonderful facilities. Our club stewardess Sharon is by far the best host in Brecon and with her team they continually ensure that there is always a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Her provision of food for away rugby teams is envied throughout all rugby circles and it is hoped that by continually improving the club house facilities she will be able to build on and further enhance her fantastic reputation.
The one glaring omission from the targets set in 2008 is the development of a “Fitness suite suitable for squad and individual training.” Temporary measures have been taken with the establishment of a small weights room in the cellar of the back bar. Although that proved popular with individual players it was barely fit for purpose and a more suitable facility is desperately needed. Plans are being drawn up and efforts are being made to raise the necessary funds to erect and furnish a fitness room either at Parc de Pugh or at the clubhouse. Much work still has to be done but hopefully by the next issue of the Newsletter some positive progress can be reported.
Apart from that urgent development the club now needs to look to the future both in the short and long term and to set new goals, prioritise them and develop strategies to achieve those goals. Maintaining the Club’s status in Division 1 has to be a priority.
Allied to that it is essential that the 2nd XV, Youth and Mini and Junior sections continue their current success. Our players of the future will always essentially be home-grown. With that being the case we need a strong foundation and we need to create an environment in which players want to stay and be part of a successful club which boasts facilities which match players’ and members’ needs and aspirations.

SEASON UP TO NOW...
After being asked for a short report of the season up to now one word probably describes it... Frustrating.
We could have helped ourselves to a better start to Division 1. A poor pre-season coupled with a lengthy injury list does not help with a small squad. By my calculations we have had as many as 6 players on the side lines with injuries lasting over a month including last season’s top try scorer only being able to play 1 game in the first 10.
It’s been a learning curve for us up to now in little things, for example missing out on losing bonus points, 5 in games we have been in contention of winning after 60 minutes. Those 5 points would have given us a mid-table position at the first half point of the season.
The long term goal for the season is to consolidate our position in Div. 1 which I feel we can certainly achieve and providing we work hard, show commitment and have a little luck a mid-table finish at least is not beyond us. Like most things in life the more you put in the more you get out.
