BRECON RFC
COME AND SEE THE STARS OF THE FUTURE
On March 28th, Easter Bank
Holiday Monday, the Club will hold our annual Minis Festival. We will be hoping that the weather is kind to us as we are hosting teams in the age groups Under 7’s to Under 11’s. There will be 50 teams attending which will mean that throughout the day there will be 750 boys and girls playing on Parc De Pugh.
The Festival now in its ninth year
has widely established itself as the leading festival in Wales. We are extremely grateful to our main sponsors St Nicholas / Christ College and all the other sponsors, referees, volunteers and parents who all work so hard every year. It is the combined effort of everyone involved that contributes to the success of the Festival year on year.
The ambition since the early days in 2006 has been to provide the best possible opportunity for young players to display their rugby skills while participating in a thoroughly enjoyable, competitive and entertaining day. We have managed this to date but to ensure continued success we are always looking for new support and help.
If you would like to get involved
in any way, maybe as a sponsor or volunteer to help with the myriad
of tasks that need to be done in the run up to and on the day please get in touch with Andy Lewis at andy.j.lewis@btconnect.com or 07770 944353
Brecon RFC Second XV Head Coach Lyn Parry happy to report that his charges have carried on from where they left off last season...

SECOND TEAM UPDATE
Following on from last year’s successful season the 2nd XV have continued to go from strength to strength. At the end of last season in a very tense final against Mountain Ash, they won the Keith Jones Cup for the first time. With the majority of last season’s squad still available and with the addition of a couple of new players and with some old boys returning from Crickhowell the team is probably the strongest it has been in many years. The management and coaching set up of Lyn Parry, Andrew Williams, Jason Rooza and lately Gareth Bowen have installed a belief and team ethos within the team which all players seem to have brought into.
Fitness has been a major part of this and a style of play which every player understands and adheres to. The forwards under Jason’s guidance have made huge strides and have given their backs front-foot ball throughout the season. In addition the forwards, when the opportunity has arisen, have shown handling skills which backs sometimes can only dream about. As a result some fantastic tries being scored.
The backs under new coach Gareth Bowen have also shown that when given the opportunity they too are more than capable of scoring tries from all parts of the field. Their defence has been strong and they have shown great improvement in this area. When putting this all together the rugby played by the Rev’s this year has been a pleasure to watch.
They are unbeaten in the league and at present well clear of the chasing pack. They have, however, suffered from other teams cancelling fixtures due to lack of players. That said they have been able to arrange numerous friendlies including against local rivals Builth and Gwernyfed, both resulting in victories. Weather has also had an effect on the number of games they have be able to play so far.
One disappointment they have suffered is losing against Cefn Coed in their defence of the cup. Having beaten them 59-5 in the league they were confident of victory but on turning up and being confronted with the majority of Cefn Coed 1st team they were unfortunate to lose 22-14.
