Personal career goals
Continue playing at a good standard with Brecon RFC and ultimately if I can keep improving my game and I get the opportunity I would like to go on the play at a higher level hopefully. How have you found life in the First XV and Division 1 this season so far? Being part of the team has been good even if it has been a big step up from the youth but I’m enjoying my time with the First XV and hope that it will continue.
Introducing Nick Davies
Brecon High School, Rugby Hub Officer...
BRECON RFC
OFF TO A GOOD START
Nick Started work in Brecon High School at the start of November. Following his first experiences he has provided the Club with the following report.
I was really busy before Christmas with the 6 school rugby teams, we played in total 29 fixtures during the term, playing 132 different players and only 48% of those lads are registered with
a club. We have had varying success, with our first XV losing to Glantaff (a big Welsh school
in Cardiff 3 x our size) in the last 32 of the Welsh schools cup. The whole team did themselves proud against older and bigger boys. The Year 11 boys (U16) are in the last 16 schools in Wales after exceptional wins against Caereinion (72-5) and Caerleon (47-5), so I am excited about the next round.. only 3 games away from Millennium (now Principality) stadium!! It is no coincidence that both these teams have high percentages of club registered players, so we
all thrive on more registrations!!!!!
I am keen to point more talented youngsters in the direction of the club and I am considering targeting individuals and then giving them letters with my contact details and the relevant Brecon RFC coaches details to give to their parents. To make this happen I have asked Angharad to supply me with all the Club Coach details
This term, the focus up the school is Girls rugby, of which I am amazed at the talent and enthusiasm of all age groups. I run these sessions whilst still trying to complete as many boys fixtures as the weather will allow! I am also spending some time visiting and running sessions
in all the primaries and am in the process of auditing the numbers of children and the number of club registered children. I have already identified a pattern in that there are clusters of registrations in certain age groups in certain years and this appears to correspond to a rugby parent who introduces their child and friends!!! As such where a year has no “rugby parents”, talent is being missed. Linking to my earlier suggestion of having contact numbers of coaches and training locations I can assist in the joining and registration process.
Blaming the weather, we have not had the opportunity to run any of the national coach development sessions (I had two evening cancelled before Christmas).... there are now 4 sessions we can deliver - intro and ideas for new coaches (aimed at U7 New coaches), intro to tackling (U9 & 10 coaches), games in mini rugby and lastly working on the contact area. These 4 sessions sit neatly in pairs and I was thinking of potentially running them during February at Brecon’s pitches. Details will be posted on Social Media and the Club Website.
Yours in rugby,
Nick.
