Stay in the stylish warmth of Sprig’s Granary; a converted barn on the former stud farm at Bacton. The nearby Golden Valley villages of Ewyas Harold, Peterchurch and Abbeydore having inspired writers such as Lewis Caroll and CS Lewis.
Visit Arthur's Stone, an atmospheric Neolithic burial chamber made of great stone slabs near Dorstone, where legend has it King Arthur slew a giant who left the impression of his elbows on one of the stones as he fell.
History lovers will admire Dore Abbey, founded by Cistercian Monks from Morimond in France in 1147 and now a wonderful venue for music and community events. Likewise the historic village of Kilpeck is famous for its beautiful Romanesque church and home to the 250 year old Kilpeck Inn, offering excellent local and seasonal food, real ales and fine wines alongside lovely B&B rooms.
Visit the 5000 acre 14C family owned Kentchurch Court estate for a relaxed stroll in the gardens or take a tour of the Scudamore’s house, then decamp to the newly refurbished Bridge Inn at Kentchurch for a quenching pint, cheeky cocktail and Mediterranean inspired lunch by the river. The neighbouring Whitfield Estate is home to the annual Herefordshire Country Fair each August for a truly countryside show experience.
Pop in to Ty Gwyn at Pontrilas for your own free cider tour, talk and tasting, then nip just 3 miles up the road to experience Rowlestone Farm and their homemade icecream parlour, picnic and campsite with woodland walks and rare breed farm animals. Talking of unusual animals, you’ll love to trek with the llamas of Golden Valley Llamas or get all fired up with the LaserClayz and Paintball at Battlelands’ rural site at Ewyas Harold.
